Hyokon's Best web applications
Basecamp
Basecamp is the tool #1 for my small company, which is myself and my colleague. However, even between 2 persons, smooth collaboration is difficult without some kind of systems.
Basecamp really helps us work together efficiently. Even when we are working side by side, we write down almost everything we discuss on basecamp. Often we have to work with remote (meaning any distance longer than face-to-face) agencies and Basecamp is even more helpful for those situations.
Gmail
Gmail is great. I use both 'gmail for domain' (now called Google Apps, bundled with other applications) and normal gmail.
The best thing about gmail is its website's fast response time. Even compared to Outlook, gmail website shows really fast response time.
Google Web Search
For our work, we do research on various topic, to look for tools or to benchmark other sites. And it would not be possible without Google's web search.
Wikipedia
This is another essential tool for our business. Probably 70% of all new knowledge of mine comes from wikipedia.
Diigo
Diigo is a great bookmarking solution for collaboration. It has private, public, group options, which is great for business collaboration. Also it's toolbar functionality is pretty good.
One problem is that Diigo seems to have some bugs or consumes a lot of my desktop resources.
Rankrz
How can I not have rankrz in this ranking! Rankrz is a people-powered ranking. With rankrz, you can express your personal preference as well as see the consensus.
Paragraphr
Paragraphr lets a writer work together with the readers. You write, revise, and get commented by paragraph. You can also move paragraphs around. Readers and writers can interact easily with paragraphr.
Conceptshare
A great tool for design collaboration. This greatly helped us working with designers remotely.
Sharedcopy
Another great tool for web design and development. Conceptshare is most effective in concept design stage, where designers present you with image files. Sharedcopy is excellent when you work on a test server.
Springloops
As I am not a developer, I don't really use it other than looking at what has been done. But I know it helps us manage development process, especially backing up, versioning, and collaboration.
I am surprised that a tiny company like ours still need collaboration tools. I think collaboration tools sometimes helps even if you work alone. It helps your current and past work together. Especially if you have a bad memory like I do.
Dictionary.com
As a Korean, I need a decent English dictionary. Dictionary.com is great. In addition to a normal dictionary, they have a thesaurus.
del.icio.us
The reason I include Delicious here is not social bookmarking.
I sometimes use Delicious for search. For a targted search, sometimes the results are even better than google search.
Live.com
If you want to read feeds from a limited number of blogs, Live.com's simplicity is very good.
Last.fm
Naver
Naver is #1 general portal in Korea. They are probably one of the earliest (or simply the earliest) rock songs company, which used 'social collaboration'. And naver was a model to copy.
