Beatles is probably the most admired pop/rock group of all time. But do people really listen to their songs other than talk about them? At the end of a day, music is judged by music. You may be a fan of a musician because of his character or social contribution. But to be a musical fan of a musician (which probably means more to most musicians), you should like his or her music.

I only know and like only a limited sub-set of their entire music portfolio. I tend to like their melodic and soft songs, but as a heavy rock fan I tend not to enjoy their harder songs. Don't get me wrong. I appreiciate their contribution to hard rock and think some of their hard rock songs were really good and advanced for their time. And it turns out that I like more McCartney's songs than Lennon's or Harrison's. But I guess they made all the music together. If you want to know the lead composers of other songs, see this.

Hey Jude

I think "Hey Jude" is a true masterpiece. The song gives me hope when I am tired or in a difficult time. I heard that Jude is John Lennon's son. Is this correct?

Main composer was Paul McCartney.

Let it Be

It is difficult to rank between "Let it Be" and "Hey Jude". Another great song. I like to listen to this one to calm myself down (or to let it be).

Written by Paul McCartney.

The Long and Winding Road

For fall and winter, and for leaving from and to.

By McCartney.

Yesterday

I think Yesterday is the most known and played song of Beatles. Not #1 in my list, but still a great song.

By McCartney.

Michelle

A blue and melodic song. The feeling of fall, winter, missing...

By Paul McCartney.

Because

Because has a truly great Melody. And listen to that harmony.

A John Lennon song, which happen to be rare in my list.  Whether a song's lead composer was McCartney or Lennon, they share a "Beatles" feeling, which is sad, but not hopeless. So, I think it may not be very appropriate to distinguish who composed what. At the end, they made it together.

Something

I can feel uniqueness of Harrison's songs. I would say they have curvy melodies, like Korean pop songs. Paul's songs are clean and straight. Lennon's has dramatic development.

By Harrison.

Get Back

A hard rock compared to others in my list. I like the relaxed yet rhythmic feeling. They sound like a high-school band. Makes me smile. Did they intend it (knowing people like me will love it) or was it because of 60's audio systems?

By Paul.

While my Guitar Gently Weeps

A song by Harrison. I think the Eric Clapton played the lead guitar here. Beatles' soft songs have a strangely sad feeling and I like it.

Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da

A happy song! Their chorus sounds funny (in a good way), and in this case I am sure it was intended.

By Paul McCartney.

Here Comes the Sun

By George Harrison. Like other Beatles' songs "Here comes the sun" give gives a feeling of hope, but with less "out of sadness".

Oh! Darling

In "Oh! Darling", Beatles mixed a ballad with a hard rock. I think that kind of style was first introduced by Beatles. And they did it really well here.

McCartney. I thought it must be a Lennon's song and I was wrong.

And I Love Her

A blue song. This one reminds me of a man waking alone, playing guitar and singing. Why?

By Paul McCartney.

Girl

Isn't this melody beautiful?

By John Lennon.

All You Need Is Love

I think this song revived again by the movie Love Actually. Beatles made a great song of love and hope.

By Lennon.

Come Together

A hard rock piece. Listen to the melody and harmony. It is not something anyone can make.

By John Lennon.
