One of the most amazing bands around at the moment is the Swedish band Soilwork. Although they actually come from Helsingborg, their rock is in the genre of the Gothenberg metal sound, which some have described as melodic death metal. Lead singer Bjorn Strid, also known as Speed, has a voice somewhere between gravel and broken glass, giving Soilwork a very distinctive sound. In recent years, the band have moved more towards a lighter melodic sound, which has drawn some criticism from their long-term fans.
Soilwork formed in 1995, originally under the name Inferior Breed, and are currently signed to Nuclear Blast. Their acclaimed albums include Stabbing the Drama, and Sworn to a Great Divide.
If you are into metal, listen to them - you are in for a real treat.

Another Swedish band that plays the Gothenburg sound - and this time they really are from Gothenburg! I love the drama of their metal sound, and like the way it is combined with melody too.
They really are like a sister to Soilwork.
Sex Pistols
Now these really were the quintessential punk band! My favorite song of theirs is Pretty Vacant. I also like Anarchy in the UK.
Jimi Hendrix
This guy was a genius - a real master of the guitar. I think my favorite is All Along the Watchtower. In terms of albums, I like the Greatest Hits one - it has all his good stuff on there.
The Specials
You can see by now that I have pretty eclectic musical tastes - yes, I love ska. The Specials weren't just good musically, they had a message too.
Deep Purple
Classic rock at its best! I love Smoke on the Water, and My Woman from Tokyo. Lots of other good stuff that they did as well.
